This year, Reel Palestine, together with Cinema Akil and directed by Jacqueline Reem Salloum, presents Slingshot Hip Hop, a series of thought-provoking films about Palestinian stories. Alongside the films, Reel Palestinian will also be organising a souk, highlighting traditional and contemporary Palestinian crafts, design, and flavours.

Reel Palestine

Reel Palestine is an annual, UAE-based film festival, telling Palestinian stories through the artistic form of independent and alternative cinema. First held in 2015, Reel Palestine is ever-growing as a result of the love and support shown by the community. Taking place at Cinema Akil, the festival’s homebase, Reel Palestine will return for its 9th edition during Quoz Arts Fest.

Cinema Akil

Cinema Akil is the arthouse cinema dreams are made of - cosy, quirky, and a pioneer in bringing critically-acclaimed films from around the world to UAE audiences.

After years of hosting nomadic pop ups in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, the first arthouse cinema in the GCC opened its permanent home at Alserkal Avenue in 2018, quickly becoming a fan favourite. Founded by Butheina Kazim, Cinema Akil promotes the goal of education and awareness-building around film and the cinematic arts.
